Records from the Brong Ahafo Regional hospital indicate that, 56 people died of Cadio Vascular Accident, commonly known as Stroke in the region between January and June this year as compared to 34 killed within the same period in 2015.
The Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, at the BA Regional Hospital, Dr. James Boakye Forjour, revealed this in an interview with correspondent Daniel Donkor in Sunyani.
Cardio Vascular Accident(Stroke) is the sudden death of brain cells in a localized area due to inadequate blood flow. A stroke occurs when blood flow is interrupted to part of the brain.
Without blood to supply oxygen and nutrients and to remove waste products, brain cells quickly begin to die. Cardio Vascular Accident (Stroke) may cause Paralysis, Speech impairment, loss of memory and reasoning ability, coma or death.
Carrying out education on the desease, Dr. J. B. Forjour said, Cardio Vascular accidents can occur in any part of the human body including the heart. He said the 2015 mid-year results showed that the desease killed 34 people making it the third most dangerous disease at the Regional Hospital last year.
He continued that from January to June this year, the mid-year results showed an increase as it has killed 56 people in the region making it to the top as the most dangerous desease.
Dr. J. B. Forjour said, the causes of stroke includes low blood pressure (Hypotension), Diabetes, Anxiety, Stress, Lack of exercise, bad diet and old age. Dr. Forjour said, in old age the blood veins becomes weak and can not function well.
He advised People not to let stress take its toll on them but rather seek medical help to control it. He further advised Ghanaians to refrain from fatty and sugary foods since in contemporary times 60 per cent of deaths are caused by bad eating habits and lifestyles in general.
He called for regular physical exercises and a reduction in the consumption of meat and fatty foods as well as the consumption of honey as the way to go in making people more healthier lifes.
